Someone's complaint about the Grand Rapids Comic Con was that there wasn't enough Disney Princess merchandise, and another person commented that they agreed, not enough merch geared toward women.
I'M SORRY, DID WE FORGET WHERE WE ARE, FRIENDS?
It's a comic con. Not the Disney Store. To be honest, there was MORE Disney merch there than there really needed to be (I see you, entire booth of Frozen paraphernalia). And nothing geared towards women? I'M SORRY, I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WOMEN ONLY LIKED PINK GLITTERY THINGS COVERED IN PRINCESSES.
I mean, do I like pink glittery things covered in princesses? Yes. I fucking love that shit. But I also love gritty video games that let me take headshots at alien critters and beat-up looking superheroes and pretty much EVERYTHING BATMAN EVER.
To me, comics and geek culture and the merchandise therein is gender neutral. If you feel that it should be "masculinized" or "feminized" just so you feel more comfortable buying it, you should probably just find a new hobby.
You wouldn't go to Disney World and whine about the lack of Batman. Don't come to comic con and whine about the lack of Rapunzel. I love Disney as much as the next red-blooded American millennial, but they are not a necessity at a con. #SorryNotSorry
