I've been to my fair share of conventions, and between the blessing of being part of the Court, and my own willingness to shell out money for autographs, I've been lucky enough to meet a lot of celebrities who have made their mark on geek culture. I'm also lucky in that all of my experiences have been positive (Sean Maher scooted closer to me during our panel, y'all, LIFE MADE). Many celebs are perfectly friendly at these events, and many clearly enjoy them. But no one, and I mean no one, enjoys them quite like one John Barrowman.
John Barrowman is a quadruple threat; the actor, writer, singer, and dancer has been gracing both screens and stages professionally for nearly thirty years. You name it, he's done it, including wearing five-inch stilettos to his panels just for fun (and doing it better than I can, which makes me horribly jealous).
Barrowman has made himself nerd culture royalty, first as intergalactic heartthrob (just ask him) Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and its spin-off Torchwood, in which Harkness is a central figure, and playing Malcom Merlyn on The CW's Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. Dabbling in so many nerdy projects makes him a comic con staple, and boy howdy, does he deliver:
This is a man who knows how to work a crowd, and not only that, but is so adorably sweet to his fans that he makes my icy heart melt into a puddle. He knows his geekery, is as pretty as a picture, and cosplays Squirrel Girl. Crush justified.
